Introduction
Cora Seeds srl is an Italian seed company devoted
to the genetic improvement of the main horticultural
crops.
The first breeding programme of Cora Seeds was
onion for the domestic and export market and
nowadays it still is themain project, especially focused
on agronomic innovations, like trying to search valid
solutions for the main cultivation problems such as
environmental stress and plant diseases that can
heavily affect the final production.
The research is done in Cora Seeds’ headquarter
in Cesena where a qualified staff of agronomists,
biotechnologists and breeders works together using
advanced techniques of genetic engineering. Very
important is also the synergy between biomolecular
and phytopathology laboratories.
New varieties follow a tested selection system,
verifying their adaptability and performances in
different suitable areas. This enables us to develop
strong and reliable hybrids satisfying growers,
traders and the food distribution network.
In the past few years Cora Seeds decided to invest
in its own direct production, followed by expert
technicians, choosing for each hybrid the most
suitable area in Italy. In this way Cora Seeds is able
to obtain the best results in terms of germination,
purity and quality of the seed.
Cora Seeds’ onion varieties are having great success
in the main export markets. This means that our
genetics performs well in different continents and
